The current owner wants to retire and wishes to share this unique piece of paradise of which they have been the stewards for the past 12 years. Rather than sell the property outright, five only shares are offered for those fortunate few chosen for their like mindedness to continue the project as a community farm and eco tourism experience.
Income is derived form holiday rentals of bungalows (of which there are currently three); Running the restaurant and Day Tours of the bat cave and farming operations.
The project can be divided into three categories (1) Expanding the farming operations to include coffee and chocolate productions as well as other produce. Current flocks of ducks and chickens and herds of goats and cattle are provided and extensive stands of cocoa and coffee exist. (2) Running hospitality including the restaurant and accommodations management. (3) Investors wishing to build a bungalow for personal use or adding to the holiday rental pool.
The four building envelopes (A-D) have water views and lend themselves to the building of bungalows in the current island style for as little as $50,000 (AUD) (using local materials). Freshwater Plantation hires staff with building skills. All lots have available power, water and sewerage.
Each share includes ownership in the entire property and a community title to the chosen building envelope.
Expansion plans for 2025 include upgrading the solar power system with additional solar panels and batteries and a larger generator, upgrades to the jetty and commercial kitchen.
There are very few good blocks available on Aore Island and none like Freshwater Plantation. Starting from scratch buying a block ($150 -200,000); Using a local builder to build a house $150-200,000; Digging a well ($2,500); Adding a solar system $40-50,000) all adds up. Plus you'll have to wait a decade or so for your garden to establish; you'll want a boat, a vehicle etc, etc. If you own a property in Vanuatu and you don't live there permanently then you are advised to hire permanent care takers (and reliable one are hard to find). Your investment in Freshwater Plantation provides all that; care and maintenance of the whole property of which you only pay your factional share.
